Workday to acquire Pipedream to extend AI agent integrations across enterprise apps

Enterprise resource planning software company Workday Inc. today announced that it plans to acquire Pipedream Inc., a startup that offers an integration platform for artificial intelligence agents, for an undisclosed price.

Founded in 2019, Pipedream provides a low-code, event-driven environment where developers can write small amounts of production code, such as in Node.js or Python, that respond to triggers such as webhooks or scheduled events. The code can also pull data from or push data to application programming interfaces, and it integrates with other services.

Pipedream offers more than 3,000 built-in app integrations, or connectors, and more than 10,000 tools, triggers and actions that can be used to build workflows or power AI agents. The platform, which claims more than 5,000 customers and tens of thousands of users, makes it possible for developers and knowledge workers to build automated flows or agent-driven experiences that span multiple systems without having to individually handle authentication, API throttling or connector maintenance.

The company’s focus on agentic workflows also extends beyond simply moving data from A to B, with support for building AI agents that can understand prompts or intents. The agents can pull in data from connected systems and act on behalf of users, for example, triggering tasks, updating records and sending notifications before integrating the data into broader business workflows.

Pipedream handles many of the heavy-lifting components for developers: managed authentication, standardized tokens, refresh flows, secure credential storage and orchestration of triggers or actions in a cloud environment. The platform also supports visual workflow building, offers software development kits and APIs and allows embedding of custom code when needed.

Workday plans to use Pipedream’s tech to extend its existing intelligence to the thousands of applications where work happens every day, including Asana Inc., Hubspot Inc., Jira, Recurly Inc. and Slack. Post-acquisition, Workday customers will be able to bring information and workflows from across their business directly into Workday and take action in the external apps their teams rely on. They do that by giving AI agents the connectivity they need to move beyond insights and complete work.

“Workday will be the connected system for customers to plan, orchestrate and execute work — marking a significant advancement for actionable AI,” said Gabe Monroy, Workday’s senior vice president of platform, products and technology.

Coming into the acquisition, Pipedream had raised $22.4 million in funding over two rounds, according to data from Tracxn. Investors included Cortado Ventures, Myelin Ventures and Starship Ventures.

“Joining Workday allows us to bring that simplicity to more than 11,000 organizations around the world, unlocking AI-powered workflows that make work dramatically easier,” said Pipedream founder and Chief Executive Tod Sacerdoti.

Subject to customary closing conditions, Workday’s acquisition of Pipedream is expected to close in Workday’s fiscal year 2026 fourth quarter that ends on Jan. 31, 2026.
