Glean adds a bit more sheen to its enterprise AI assistant

Agentic artificial intelligence startup Glean Technologies Inc. said today it’s boosting the capabilities of its digital coworker Glean Assistant, making it much more customizable than before.

Users are getting all kinds of new goodies, including real-time voice support, the ability to generate on-brand content, proactive templates and agent sandboxes for sensitive tasks. They’re also getting dozens of new “enterprise actions,” which enable Glean Assistant to automate even more work.

Glean, which started out as a provider of conversational enterprise search technologies, has become one of the foremost developers of enterprise-grade AI agents. Its agentic development platform makes it simple for businesses to create “horizontal” AI agents that can access broad data from across the entire organization, as well as public data from the web. The idea is that this gives its agents the knowledge they need to act “horizontally” across every department within the company.

Besides building their own AI agents, companies can also leverage Glean Assistant, which is a ready-made agent that’s designed for hardcore business automation and the focus of today’s update.

As the name suggests, Glean Assistant is designed primarily as an assistant, meaning that it works alongside humans, trying to help them be more productive and efficient. It brings together search, analysis, content creation and execution in a single experience, so that workers can simply talk to it as they go about their work and assign it whatever tasks they decide are too time-consuming to do by themselves.

Until now, the major disadvantage of Glean Assistant was that employees could talk to it only through a chat interface, meaning they’d have to type out whatever questions or requests they have. But that’s no longer necessary, for it’s now getting real-time voice support, meaning users can engage with it in a conversational way.

It’s also getting enhanced content creation abilities, allowing it to create documents and images that will automatically be branded if the user requests. So if someone needs to create a quick presentation about their latest marketing campaign, Glean Assistant will make sure it uses the correct fonts, colors and logos to match the brand’s existing materials.

There’s also a new “Canvas” capability that makes it easier for workers to collaborate with Glean Assistant, while on the automation side, it’s getting even more “actions,” Glean said. With the update, it now supports more than 100 actions, allowing it to automate tasks across platforms including Salesforce, Google Calendar, Asana, Canva, Jira, Confluence and GitHub.

Meanwhile, the new agent sandbox provides a secure, lightweight environment that’s equipped with a command line interface, code interpreter, filesystem and tool index. So the assistant can analyze large datasets safely, without context window limitations or risks that data might accidentally be leaked.

Finally, the new agent templates make it possible for employees to set up Glean Assistant to perform various tasks on a day-to-day basis. Using the templates, employees can surface action items, plan their day around their priorities and meetings and summarize their weekly accomplishments. Once they’re organized, they can then assign multiple tasks to Glean Assistant, allowing them to focus their energies on more creative and productive work.
