Legal AI startup Legora raises $550M at $8.8B to change the face of the law

Stockholm-based legal artificial intelligence startup Legora AB today announced it has raised a notable $550 million in late-stage funding at an $8.8 billion post-money valuation.

Atreides Management led the Series E round, which also brought participation from new investors Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Glade Brook Capital Partners and J.P. Morgan. Every major existing investor also participated, including Accel, Benchmark, Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst, ICONIQ, Insight Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures, Salesforce Ventures and Sands Capital.

The round follows the company’s $550 Series D round in March and brings total funding to a staggering $866 million across eight rounds.

The company said it has seen a surge in annual recurring revenue from $1 million to $100 million in less than 18 months, faster than any other enterprise software company selling through a direct sales team. The next $100 million took less than six months. Current ARR stands at more than $200 million.

Legora provides legal AI agents as teams are beginning to move beyond simple assistants for legal work and into full-service automation that carry out multistep work. The firm said it is expanding its geographic footprint and offering to capture this hungry market.

In-house legal teams, which represented only a small fraction of Legora’s customer base a year ago, made up 40% of the company’s new customers in the third quarter. In the United States, Legora’s largest market by revenue is now represented by more than half of AmLaw 50 customers and the company opened its first U.S. office in spring 2025.

“The opportunity in legal is enormous and we are still early,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Max Junestrand. “AI is changing the role of the lawyer, with more time for judgment and advice, and it is reshaping how law firms and in-house legal teams are organized and how their work gets done.”

Junestrand added that the company intends to lead that shift in the U.S. and globally.

Founded in 2023, Legora launched its platform in October 2024. It now has more than 1,000 employees across 18 offices and supports more than 140,000 legal professionals at more than 2,400 leading law firms and in-house legal teams across 80 markets.

AI is reshaping the legal industry. It is accelerating research and document work, changing how firms staff and price matters, and enabling corporate legal teams to handle more work internally. The central shift has moved toward the time spent on producing legal work and the judgment applied to work increasingly assisted by software.

The transition is underway, but incomplete. Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd. found that 96% of surveyed legal leaders expected technology and AI literacy to grow in importance for in-house lawyers, while 84% of organizations had not yet redesigned roles around AI. Of those surveyed, 61% of departments are now deploying AI, with only 10% with AI fully embedded in workflows.

“Legal is a sophisticated market with demanding buyers, and the bar for software is high,” said Atreides Management LP Chief Information Officer and Managing Partner Gavin Baker. “Legora has become the platform that law firms and in-house legal teams adopt and then expand across their organizations, and it has done so while growing at remarkable speed.”

Firms like Legora exist in a space where it assists with less manual production, more technology-supported workflows, greater client pressure on pricing and a premium on verification and legal judgment.

The company said the capital will support continued global expansion, including in North America, where Legora has offices in New York, Denver, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Toronto and Mexico City, as well as in its markets across Europe and Asia-Pacific. It will also deepen investments in its agentic AI legal “operating system,” aOS, bringing in new products to assist lawyers in their work.
