Ocient raises $100 million as agentic AI drives growth in large-scale analytics
Ocient Inc., the maker of a speedy data analytics platform, today said it has raised $100 million in a Series C funding to expand its agentic artificial intelligence analytics business.
That business is fueled by growing demand from national security organizations and telecommunications providers seeking to analyze massive datasets without sampling. The new round brings the Chicago-based company’s total funding to $260 million.
Ocient said it expects revenue to more than triple in its current fiscal year, which ends in January, after doubling revenue the previous year. The company said the new financing will accelerate delivery of its OcientAIQ Solutions, which enable AI agents and human analysts to query petabyte-scale datasets.
Chief Executive John Morris said much of the growth is coming from new customers in national security and telecommunications, particularly organizations using the platform to consolidate cybersecurity information.
“They’ve been accustomed to having to sample data coming off the network,” Morris said. “They don’t have anything that can handle the ingest rates, nor that can store at an affordable price tens of petabytes of data.”
Ocient’s original business focused on high-performance analytics, but the emergence of AI agents has expanded its potential market. Increasingly, software agents rather than human analysts are querying its systems, driving higher utilization and creating demand for more comprehensive datasets.
The OcientAIQ Unified Data Platform combines ingestion, analytics, governance and agent orchestration. Its architecture minimizes data movement and uses forward error correction instead of conventional replication to provide data protection with reduced storage overhead.
“The architecture is designed not to move data around constantly as most architectures do, and to have nothing replicated,” Morris said.
The company competes with Snowflake Inc., Databricks Inc. and open-source analytics implementations, although its technology frequently complements existing platforms rather than replacing them, the CEO said.
Cybersecurity has emerged as a particularly promising market. Ocient provides the underlying data infrastructure that enables security tools and AI agents to analyze network activity across complete historical datasets, potentially identifying threats that conventional sampling would miss.
However, Morris said the company isn’t positioned as a cybersecurity tool. “We don’t do the detection algorithms and the sort of things that the companies in that space do,” Morris said.
Government and defense customers account for a substantial portion of Ocient’s business. The company recently established a dedicated national security subsidiary to serve those markets.
Morris said the new funding should be sufficient to help Ocient reach breakeven, although he declined to provide a timetable. Ocient plans to direct much of the investment toward hiring sales and customer delivery personnel while continuing engineering development.
The company is also seeing increasing demand for on-premises deployments as customers seek greater control over costs and sensitive information. “Most of our opportunities now are on-prem because they’re either repatriating for cost reasons or for data sovereignty and data protection issues,” Morris said.
The company is also looking to expand geographically, particularly in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America, while pursuing additional cybersecurity customers.
The round was co-led by Boka Capital Ltd. and OCA Ventures LLC, with participation from previous investors Greycroft Partners LLC, In-Q-Tel Inc., Blue Bear Capital LLC, Buoyant Ventures Management LLC, PSP Partners LLC’s PSP Growth fund and Pritzker Group Venture Capital LLC.
