Revolution Analytics Expands into Asia Pacific

Revolution Analytics opened up an office in Singapore in order to gain a foothold in the Asia Pacific market. The Asian market is in a phase of very rapid growth, and other vendors such as EMC have also identified an opportunity to invest in the local sales channel.

The Singapore outlet will serve as the headquarters for the entire Asia Pacific region, the company said in a release. Revolution offers a commercial distribution of the mathematics-oriented R programming language and software environment, used mainly by data scientists to process big data workloads.

Revolution already landed one customer, Singapore Polytechnic’s Centre for SME Infocomm Resource. The department uses R to train students and will also implement it to enhance the predictive analysis services it offers to enterprises.

“Singapore is an emerging technology leader that is uniquely suited to capitalize on the growing market for big data analytics,” said David Rich, Revolution Analytics CEO. “Revolution Analytics is committed to working with CSIR and other organizations and government agencies to make Singapore a world-class analytics center of excellence. We are thrilled to have launched operations in Singapore and have been impressed by the warm welcome and support we’ve received from Singapore authorities and organizations.”

Academia is a very large market for Revolution, considering its origins – it even began offering a single-user license of its commercial R distribution to higher learning institutions this year.

Also a few months back Revolution Analytics rolled out the sixth version of its Enterprise R platform. It scales faster than the previous version and at a “fraction of the time” of other alternatives, and offers extended support for Microsoft environments.  The launch also debuted a number of modifications to the R language itself, made to better accommodate math-intensive code used by financial services firms and other industries.
