Despite losing Google to MariaDB, Oracle still maintains a firm grip on the database market. The company’s OpenWorld conference in San Francisco attracted tens of thousands of customers and hundreds of partners, including Fibre Channel vendor QLogic.
The networking equipment supplier is attending the event to showcase FabricCache, a line of adapters that leverage its Mt. Rainier technology to make server-side flash capacity available for clustered applications. QLogic claims that the technology greatly reduces latency in clustered Oracle RAC environments while improving transaction response times by as much as 75 percent.
The FabricCache family is being demonstrated alongside Oracle’s Sun Storage 16Gb and FC ExpressModule Universal host bus adapters, which are built on top of QLogic’s FlexSuite architecture. The HBAs offer port isolation and support for a wide range of platforms, including the forthcoming Oracle VM release and the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) enhancement for the database giant’s Linux distribution.
“QLogic is the first company to extend the benefits of flash cache to clustered application servers with our FabricCache caching SAN adapter,” commented Amit Vashi, the vice president of products, technology and planning for QLogic. “At Oracle OpenWorld, customers can see for themselves how QLogic FabricCache can significantly accelerate Oracle RAC performance in Fibre Channel SAN environments.”
Two weeks ago, QLogic unveiled two new adapters for HP ProLiant servers. The QMH2672 16Gb and FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port both devices deliver three times the IOPS and double the throughput of previous generation solutions, making them better suited for resource-intensive use cases such as media streaming and transaction processing.
Less than a month prior, QLogic rolled out inbox drivers for VMware to make it easier for customers to install and update the virtualization giant’s software. The company also introduced a cloud-based version of the QConvergeConsole management tool.
