SkyDrive ready for primetime in the Xbox One, makes it a true entertainment center

It has been less than ten days at the official debut of the Xbox One and Microsoft has begun to illustrate the operation of apps pre-installed on the console. Microsoft announced that SkyDrive will be an important part of Xbox One, as it will serve as multimedia entertainment console center.

The storage service SkyDrive from Microsoft will come to Xbox One starting November 22. With it, users can view the images and videos that are stored in the cloud. “Xbox: Go to SkyDrive” is the command that many will be using from November 22 when the new console from Microsoft hits the market.

A new video shows Xbox One in action running Microsoft’s cloud-powered SkyDrive media center. This application lets you view photo albums and videos you have stored on SkyDrive or have been shared with you–all controlled by gestures or voice commands through Kinect.

“You can open photo albums from channels in the OneGuide, play music alongside your slide show with Xbox Music, and control the whole app with gestures and voice, courtesy of Kinect,” explains SkyDrive’s program manager, Dan Somrack. “It all starts with the simple command, ‘Xbox: Go to SkyDrive.’”

Your photos will look like SkyDrive albums depending on the day you took them or the way in which you organize manually from another computer. The videos also have the same function and can be played on Xbox One through this app. This means that Microsoft is taking the synchronization of all devices via SkyDrive account that will keep the content available from the console.

Simply via voice, gestures or with the controller customers can navigate between folders and select the desired media from the display. A sophisticated preview this case ensures that the index is loaded quickly and allows seamlessly zoom images even at very high resolution. Another feature is the ability to upload files with Windows Phone photos shot directly to the cloud, so that they are available immediately. The same applies for a live cam, which makes periodic photos and these images can be made available via SkyDrive.

The service automatically adds the Pictures and Roll, but you can add any folder that will be represented as a channel. Since the Xbox One shares the kernel with Windows 8.1, you can find similar functionality found in the operating system. The Snap View mode allows you to place two apps on the same screen. During a slideshow you could, for example, play a piece of music in the background with Xbox Music.

Although Microsoft is innovating with SkyDrive integration on the Xbox One, what makes this console in a true entertainment center is the ability to create channels with the content itself in OneGuide.

Furthermore, the presence of third-party applications on the console is an excellent example of the future of Microsoft in this regard. SkyDrive is integrated in all the services and devices in the company with Windows 8.1. However, the Xbox One is the clear example that all software will be synchronized across devices and that the future of storage is in the cloud.

Microsoft is finding SkyDrive as the ultimate destination for personal cloud storage for all platform. Currently, users can add files to SkyDrive from devices with Android, iOS and Windows Phone from anywhere. Thus, Microsoft is opening the possibilities of cross software for various platforms. This is a reflection of the cloud is no longer a unique feature for mobile devices, but is the future of storage for any type of devices and Microsoft is taking important role in this process.
