New IBM mainframe designed for analytics and mobile

IBM today is announcing a new mainframe, the System z13, designed for very high volume, high security transactional environments in an increasingly mobile world. Watch theCUBE from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET to see the detailed announcements and interviews from the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.

The new system can process up to 2.8 billion transactions per day with built-in real-time analysis and security at a lower price per transaction than competing systems, IBM said. The z13 is the product of a five-year, $1 billion development process that includes collaboration with more than 60 IBM clients and innovations from more than 500 new patents.

Z13 transactions are persistent, protected and auditable from end-to-end. The processor doubles the speed of encryption, based on new cryptographic technology patents, allowing it to encrypt all transactions end-to-end to protect transaction data while meeting customer expectations for near-instant transaction speeds.

It is the first mainframe with embedded analytics providing real-time insights on all transactions – IBM says 17 times faster than any other method – at a fraction of the cost of competitive methods. This helps provide real-time fraud protection on all business transactions.

IBM has designed x13 to integrate real-time scoring of all transactions to identify fraud before the transaction reaches the customer’s account, and it guarantees this capability as a feature of the system. In addition, businesses can use the analysis capabilities to provide personalized services, such as up-sell and cross-sell promotions, in near real-time. It also provides new support for Hadoop for analysis of unstructured data.
