While some eat up their monthly allotted data very quickly, others have so much that they just don’t know what to do with it. If you’re one of those who often happens to have excess bandwidth, you might want to participate in a new platform that’ll let you earn Bitcoins by sharing it with the masses.
Called BitMesh, the platform aims to reward people for sharing their Internet connection with others. Participants don’t need to purchase any equipment, as they can just use their smartphone’s hotspot or router to provide people with constant connectivity.
Those who connect with these shared hotspots will be paying a fee, which will be negotiated in a local ‘martketplace’ to achieve a fair price for the Internet connectivity without relying on third-party escrow. The aim of BitMesh is to provide constant connectivity to everyone interested, at a fair price.
BitMesh is still a work in progress, but it may be something that gets off the ground quickly as it is not the first time Wi-Fi for Bitcoin was thrown in the idea bucket.
According to reports, former Reddit cryptocurrency engineer Ryan Charles was the first person to float the idea of crowdfunding a ‘Bitcoin wireless’ business. Charles’ plan involves downloading and installing an app so users can share their Internet connection and be rewarded with Bitcoin for their generosity. The project was called “Bitcoin Wireless”, and at first some critics suggested BitMesh may have copied his idea. However, BitMesh itself took to Reddit and posted links to a GitHub page, which reveals that work on BitMesh has been underway for some time already, which means it’s unlikely to be a copycat.
