HP Discover: It’s all about transformation | #HPDiscover

At the close of HP Discover Day 1, theCUBE cohosts Dave Vellante and John Furrier gave high marks to HP for its four transformation areas: transform to hybrid infrastructure; protect your digital enterprise; empower your data-driven organization; and enable workplace productivity.

“Overall I’m very impressed with the messaging, and the lesser focus on speeds and feeds is refreshing,” Furrier said.

Meg Whitman discusses HP split-up

HP delivered what Furrier had predicted: CEO Meg Whitman discussed the split of HP Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise. HP execs discussed the “four pillars” messaging regarding the transformation areas. And HP highlighted new products.

HP did not come through on its “idea economy” philosophy, according to Furrier. “I don’t like it leading as messaging for the company,” he said. “Although the messaging around hybrid Cloud was meaty and relevant.”

Vellante saw some value in the new slogan. “Ideas are the mainspring,” he explained. “Those ideas create products and services that I can consume. It’s not an economic dynamic.”

Both agreed that HP falls behind in converged systems, but the company is poised to lead in multiple markets. “But they’ve got to execute,” Furrier said.

Vellante added, “They have to connect the dots between Cloud and data. That connection is the key to success.”
