SAP dives deeper into data center analytics

SAP SE is set to bolster its analytical tool offerings in the coming weeks, and has previewed a number of upcoming new capabilities aimed at different kinds of enterprises.

Earlier this week, SAP unveiled its new IT Operations Analytics tool for IT departments that’s designed to make managing modern data centers easier, reported ComputerWorld. The new solution was announced at a conference call on data analytics for the SAP community this week, and provides real-time streaming of log data to show what’s happening across the entire data center. It also provides the ability to combine data from various sources into a single view, allowing simpler root-cause analysis.

The IT Operations Analytics tool was first built as a native app for SAP Hana, but SAP’s global vice president and general manager for Business Intelligence Jayne Landry said users aren’t required to have a Hana license to run it. Instead, SAP seems to want as many people as possible to use the tool and is inviting companies to participate in an “early-user” program.

At the same conference call, SAP previewed a number of new capabilities that will be added to its intelligence tools for line-of-business users.

These tools include Lumira 1.27, a new release which will gain improved data-wrangling and blending capabilities in the next few weeks, plus the ability to handle larger amounts of data. Lumira 1.27 also comes with improved geospatial location analytics, better cross-tab functionality and more advanced chart formatting and customization features, ComputerWorld reported.

Martha Bennett, an analyst with Forrester Research, told ComputerWorld that customers have been requesting these features for a while. “Things like being able to incorporate data sources from outside universes into a dashboard are long overdue,” Bennett said, noting that SAP has faced difficulties in integrating new features while ensuring existing deployments don’t break.
