Tech Stereotypes: Once You Go Mac, You Never Go Back
There were times when one would look at your attire, the way you talk, your gestures, etc. in order to make some guesses about the sort of person you are. But it seems like technology has taken over that part of our life too. Today, we come across many stereotypes based on the gadgetry you use and the technology you prefer. In any group of techies, are there more of Macs or PCs ? Linux users or Windows? Playstations or XBoxes? iPhones or Androids or BlackBerries?
We make certain judgment calls about each other, based on the technology decisions we each make. Is there really a personality difference between techies who choose a different brand of electronics? Retrevo, the electronics market place (with reviews, guides and deals) took on the fact-finding task with their Gadget Census. The report on the gadget owners personality traits revealed many interesting facts.
The statistics show that Android-based device owners tend to be the techiest (if that is a word) of all. They are more likely to cut the chord on their landline, use more smartphone-based GPS navigation, and own more and complicated gadgets. The iPhone user, as we all know, is more loyal to their brand. Also, iPhone users have a somewhat cult of their own; they are young and willing to try out new stuff. They are the ones with the most entertainment-oriented purchases like games and movies. BlackBerry owners are the seasoned, business-oriented people. The relatively older group of smartphone owners, usually choose a BlackBerry.
This is what the report concluded on :
Although most gadget enthusiasts all have one thing in common and that is a passion for the latest gear and gadgets, there are also big differences between owners of different types and brands of products. Apple is not just a company but a way of life and a commitment to a line of electronics, Android owners with their choice of carriers could make them more confident cell phone users and BlackBerry owners might agree with the motto slow and steady wins the race.
So, here we are with our own new set of stereotypes in the technological era. These types of technology enthusiasts get reiterated by many different discussions in many places. Like this fun comic here. Do let us know about your thoughts and observation about personality traits of gadget owners. :)
