Groupon Pushes Growth with Merit-Based Scholarship Deals

The pioneering  Groupon daily coupon site has added yet another category to its ever-expanding list of deals: the $60,000 Grouspawn parents-based (2+ blows in one) strike college scholarships service. In 20 years from now, when everybody will be going to work in flying cars, the parents possessing solid proof they used the Groupon daily-deal service will then be able to candidate their children for Groupon’s scholarships.

“The Chicago-based online coupon site announced Wednesday The Grouspawn Award, a college scholarship to be awarded twice annually to children of parents who used Groupon on their first date.”

This is a small sacrifice to make from the site’s end, as this will allow them to head straight-forward toward merit-based social marketing – a method that had turned out to be a very powerful tool in the hands of non-profit organizations. That of course, can prove to be even more effective in the hands of a site also predominately offering significant discounts.  As Groupon faces potential backlash for its true marketing potential, it will need to find a balance with the industries it attracts to its platform.

There are some people who just can not resist being a part of one or more good deeds. That share of the internet market, if not most of it, is in a very similar context also being actively attracted by public safety and governmental entities, as mentioned in this post. Social media executives not so surprisingly also begin to do the same in order to attract more non-profit notice & interest; this in the light of Mark Zuckerberg’s recent $100 million donation to the Newark school system.
