One-click installs: Moving to simplicity with Hadoop | #BigDataNYC
EMC Cloud Solutions always seems to be on the horizon of producing easy solutions. In a smart partnership with BlueData, Inc., it has been able to combine its abilities to deliver customers one-click solutions to Hadoop.
Dave Vellante, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, sat down with Chris Harrold, Global CTO – Big Data Solutions at EMC, and Anant Chintamaneni, VP products at BlueData, to elaborate on this partnership and what it means for end users.
The partnership
EMC has partnered with BlueData to provide operational expertise, and ultimately the solutions businesses are hungry for. As Harrold said, “data without the data scientists” summarizes this relationship. BlueData has taken the complexity out of deploying Hadoop-based solutions, even virtualized Hadoop, which until a few years ago wasn’t thought practical. It’s a match well made for an industry looking for ease of use, simplicity, and ease of implementation and customization.
One-click solutions from the app store
In line with the themes of many conferences, including this year’s BigDataNYC 2015, is the notion of one-click installation and implementation. BlueData has elegantly packaged, using dockers, its applications for deployment of Hadoop-based services to end users. Most uniquely, and borrowing Apple’s App Store format, it has set up an App Store of its own that allows customers to simply “one-click install” any one of the customized solutions provided both BlueData, but also by customers of BlueData who have provided patches or feature customization.
