Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 build sees improvement to Edge and Cortana, includes Skype integration

Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 Insider Preview build for PC (10565) to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring includes a slew of new features including Skype integration, a few new additions to the Edge browser and also new features in Microsoft’s digital assistant Cortana.

Starting with Cortana, the digital assistant now understands notes written on your screen in digital ink. Cortana will read whatever you’ve inked on your screen, dates, times, locations, and hopefully remind you of that information when need be. It will also keep track of all your “ticketed” bookings made via email, and remind you a couple of hours before the event where you need to be. If you need a ride, Cortana will now give you the option of booking one with Uber Inc.’s ride-sharing service.

Microsoft’s new Edge browser, which will in time completely replace Internet Explorer, now includes a tab preview feature. This will allow users to hover over tabs and preview the content on those particular websites. Edge will also now let you sync your Favorites and Reading list items, although Microsoft says this is still a work in progress.

As Microsoft promised, Skype will be integrated with Windows 10 via Phone and Skype video universal Windows apps. Microsoft again gives the caveat that this is a work in progress so expect a few bugs. The company also stated in a blog post that, “With this build, you can preview the integrated capabilities on your PC, while an upcoming Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview build will have these integrated capabilities for you to preview soon on mobile devices.”

Other arguably less exciting new changes include the ability to personalize your title bars, adjustments to printer settings, activation improvements, changes to context menus on Start and a bunch of new icons. Microsoft has included fixes to known issues in the new build.
