TMX Atrium automates from a single, secure plane | #NXTWORK

With the first day of the Juniper Networks NXTWORK 2015 event underway, announcements and presentations have those in charge of DevOps and security energized over the new innovations shown off so far. Enterprises using Juniper Networks, Inc.’s hardware and infrastructure, such as the NetScreen 5200 security appliance, have plenty to hold their interest at this event.

Jide Akintola, a Juniper ambassador and head of network engineering and design for TMX Atrium, sat down with John Furrier and Stu Miniman, cohosts  of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, to discuss what these developments mean to his company. With five years of work experience at Juniper prior to his time at TMX Atrium, Akintola is privileged enough to be familiar with Juniper-related business from the inside and outside.

Reducing latency

Akintola described the current emphasis of his position as focusing on improving the speed of stock exchange market data transmission to customers. Currently, that focus is being applied to shaving further nanoseconds off, with an ultra-low-latency micro-wafer infrastructure being key to those efforts. Customers have the option of personalizing the company’s services relative to their specific needs, but continuing to improve speed remains the top priority.

Increasing automation

Another important aspect highlighted by Akintola was his company’s reliance on automation for service delivery, along with ensuring its secure implementation. “Being able to automate … from a single plane, it’s crucial,” he said, noting the importance of being able to expedite services which once took week or months to deliver to customers.

Ambassador status

Akintola was perhaps most enthusiastic about his position as a Juniper ambassador, working with the company as an outside perspective. “To actually be brought into the ambassador family, it’s a massive privilege … It’s a family; it’s a community.”

While he did note the relative freedom from not having to worry about internal bureaucracies, Akintola also felt that his position and experience enabled him to share candid feedback without any loss in opportunities.
