How one company helps deploy data pipelines in minutes | #StructureConf

Touted as the collaborative way to innovate and bring enhanced solutions to the enterprise, open source can be complicated to use and often comes with overhead for companies that are recruiting and maintaining developers and administrators that bring value.

Florian Leibert, CEO of Mesosphere, Inc., joined George Gilbert, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Structure 2015 to discuss how enterprises reap the benefits of open source with systems that are easy to deploy and manage.

Open source based, ease of use

“One of our focus points this year was launching our product Infinity, one of our latest product offerings that works on top our distributed kernel Apache Mesos and surrounding DCOS [Datacenter Operating System], which is our internal offering around Mesos,” Leibert said. “Infinity actually gives you a number of components for IoT and Big Data.”

The process of sensor to data storage is explained as an IoT pipeline that takes information from sensors to where you store the data. “Then you can take this data and write an application for a display or dashboard or trigger an event,” he said. “It is actually fascinating how quickly you can build these systems today.”

Mesosphere’s Infinity uses various open-source platforms and offers a way to deploy this entire pipeline in a couple of minutes to a hybrid cloud, public cloud or private cloud.

No lock-in

The mission for the company is to enable true profitability by enabling development on local machines and mirror the same environment in the cloud. “The only difference is you can do this with a single mouse click,” Leibert said.

The company is also providing the enterprise the ability to replicate without lock-in. Leibert explained that the solutions provided by Mesosphere can run in most cloud environments and create a layer of abstraction that frees you from lock-in.
