EMC has launched a data analysis product; EMC Greenplum Data Computing Appliance. This was an expected announcement after EMC acquired Greenplum and here it is, with the product already shipping, just after 75 days of the acquisition. It is a major step forward in EMC’s growth strategy.
This product can be used in real time to analyze huge amounts of data and it boasts a data loading speed double that of the next nearest competitor. It utilizes the cutting edge hardware technology of EMC along with the disruptive Data Warehousing technology by Greenplum, to deliver excellent results. The Wall Street Journal reports,
Bill Cook, Greenplum’s former CEO and current head of the data-computing products division, told Dow Jones Newswires that the potential market for data analytics, which is still early in its formation, currently stands at "multi, multi billions" of dollars. And that is expected to grow. "Putting data together so it makes sense…is the next big thing," Cook said. He added that eventually, "data analytics is going to be core to every business."

He [Wells Fargo analyst Jayson Maynard] warned the new product "has to be the first of many steps if EMC is going to not just compete, but actually win." "EMC is a late entrant into the market and needs a deeper software story around how data is managed and governed, not just stored," Maynard added.
The need for faster and high capacity Data Warehousing Solutions is upping with the increase in amount of information produced by companies. Businesses are taking in customer information, product information, employee information, and so on and so forth. This huge plethora of information is of no use, if it can’t be used in decision making. Here is where, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence Solutions come in to provide an analytical report on data trends. Moreover, Cloud Computing helps to solve mobility, performance and capacity handling issues.
This announcement is another milestone achieved by EMC in becoming a big fish in the Data Warehousing Solutions industry. But, there is a long way to go still. We can surely say, this is not the last that we have heard from the EMC and Greenplum duo.
