The future of predictive analytics and machine learning | #RMWisdom16

Dave Vellante and Jeff Frick, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, wrapped up the day at RapidMiner Wisdom 2016 in New York City and analyzed the Big Data and analytics ecosystems and where they are headed.

A question of profitability

Noting that we are out of the “tire-kicking phase” of Big Data, predictive analytics and machine learning, Vellante posed the question, “How do we get value out of this?” He talked about RapidMiner’s (Rapid-I, Inc.) success with a fresh injection of capital at a time when investing in the industry is drying up and there is a challenge in monetizing the open-source platform.

Market Woes

When analyzing the downturn in the market, Frick said, “I was thinking about Michael Dell going private and how he is not exposed to the market.” The hosts noted that with the recent fluctuation in the stock market, private companies have more staying power right now.

Solutions that fit

The problematic part of predictive analytics and machine learning seems to be finding a solution that will bring the science down to the enterprise level. The hosts agree that shifting from traditional business intelligence to data-driven decisions is key in a profitable organization.
