Yahoo Seeking to Build Strong Frontline

Yahoo! Inc. announced a new executive today: Wayne Powers has been named as the company’s new Senior Vice President. With his experience gained in the position of President for Time Inc. Media group, Powers will be supervised from his New York based office by the prospective Executive Vice President of the Americas, Ross Levinsohn.

The opportunity for Yahoo! to have the services of one of the most prepared professionals was commented by Kara Swisher as “a big plus for CEO Carol Bartz, who had a very big hole in the middle of the key money-making organization at the Internet giant.

“Double plus: As a longtime exec at the magazine unit of Time Warner, he is a known quantity in the sector (and best of all, not from Bartz’s favored enterprise business!).”

Yahoo’s interest in being a monetizable media network is materialized in a number of ways, including their recent acquisition of Dapper, towards optimizing smart ads. Dapper has its experience in creating fast and creative adverts that Yahoo seeks for its deep consumer insights and targeted delivery methods. In the recent past, Yahoo! Inc started a partnership with specialized companies such as Zillow, branching out its content partners to regain relevance for its portal system.

Moreover, rumors about AOL and Alibaba Group’s interest for buying Yahoo! have spread this week, while  Yahoo has recently contacted financial advisers to be counseled in the possible acquisition of its company. There is nothing certain in these pieces of information regarding the re-structuring of Yahoo, which give room to interpretation, but what is obvious is the fact that Yahoo is seeking to build up a strong frontline.
