Dell Data Encryption to Counter Rising Breaches

The cost of data breaches is dramatically rising with 14 million private records exposed and 575 data-breaching cases so far this year. In the US alone, $6.7 million worth of damages were recorded. In alignment with the government’s compliance methods towards counter the rising cases of data breaching, Dell  announced Dell Data Protection/Encryption, an encryption solution which will stand as a “front door” to sensitive and private data.

“Public exposure of private and highly sensitive data continues to occur in organizations both large and small,” said Eric Ouellet, vice president, Secure Business Enablement, Gartner. “Managed endpoint encryption solutions that are flexible and adaptable to the demands of mobile users help minimize risks and are an important part of best practice frameworks.”

As an intelligent file-based encryption solution, Dell Data Protection/Encryption protects data on laptops, desktops and external media. It simplifies data protection and provides centralized management and comprehensive reporting while making it possible for IT departments to point out devices that need encryption, and thus, enforce policies and audit encryption state.

The product can be deployed in any environment. It has Quick Recovery of systems feature in case of errors, but eliminating the extensive process of decrypting, transporting data and re-encrypting. It encrypts data on disks and removable media such as USB thumb drives, external hard drives, eSata drives, 1394 devices, optical storage³ and Secure Digital (SD).

Dell is in recovery mode right now after losing some of its dominance in the industry; it’s defeat in the 3PAR bid war and additional an competitor with Isilon’s acquisition by EMC. The’ve lost an important executive, Ron Garriques, on their mobile front.
