The future of enterprise cloud: an inside peek at the upcoming Nutanix .NEXT DC conference

Enterprise cloud company Nutanix Inc. has had one heck of a year. Bolstered by an initial public offering in fall 2016, it has gone from a company of hundreds of  employees to thousands, producing north of $1 billion in revenue. This growth has been powered by the rise of cloud computing and extensive partnerships across the industry to make the most of this new data-driven world.

“I think for most people, it’s not that different,” said Howard Ting, chief marketing officer at Nutanix, referring to the new energy at the company. For sellers, the people who work at headquarters, and the folks supporting customers, there’s no difference in the day-to-day, he explained.

Ting spoke to Stu Miniman (@stu), co-host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile live-streaming studio, in SiliconANGLE’s Palo Alto, CA, studio.

The Nutanix CMO visited the studio to give a preview of what’s in store at the upcoming Nutanix .NEXT DC conference, set for June 28-30 in Washington, D.C., at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. (*Disclosure below.)

More than hyperconverged infrastructure

The “heat” at Nutanix .NEXT conferences has always been the attendees and the content itself, according to Ting. That content will include over 70 sessions and more than 100 speakers. Of those, many will be customers showcasing how they use Nutanix products and what they’ve learned from the experience.

Infrastructure will also be a topic of conversation, especially concerning hyperconverged solutions and clouds. As Ting said, all the big vendors are leaning in on hyperconverged infrastructure, accepting it as a starting point for any new infrastructure deployments. However, he was also quick to say the conference wasn’t just about hyperconverged, but how to build enterprise clouds.

“For us, enterprise cloud is the cloud, and the cloud has to stretch across boundaries,” Ting said.

Nutanix doesn’t see a real difference between public and private clouds in the future. As for hybrid cloud, that’s something Nutanix will be making some announcements around in the coming year.
