Google wants you to get fit this spring with new fitness class booking service

Google Inc. wants you to get fit this spring with a new service that allows you to book fitness classes.

Called Reserve, the service is available via the Reserve with Google website, within Google Maps and Google Search. It allows users to search for fitness studios near them, use filters to pinpoint exactly what they’re looking for, get recommendations for new classes and ultimately, if they find something they like, book a spot in a fitness class session.

Because using Google to book a fitness class alone isn’t that exciting, the service also offers users intro offers when available and the availability to buy class packages or memberships.

According to a blog post from Google, the service uses third-party services to make the bookings, including MINDBODY, MyTime, Genbook, Full Slate, Front Desk and Appointy, to deliver real-time class inventory.

Previously available to users since December on a trial basis in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, the service is now available throughout the United States. But it’s likely that the service will primarily cater to cities and large towns, meaning the residents of somewhere like Bear River, Wyoming, are unlikely to be able to book a fitness class in their town, presuming they actually have fitness classes to begin with.

While in and of itself Google Reserve isn’t all that exciting or innovative, it is notable given its name, not Google Fitness Classes but Google Reserve. That indicates fitness classes may simply be the beginning of a broader service for the search giant that may ultimately allow users to book all sorts of things via Google, such as restaurants and theater tickets.

Direct bookings can be made from the website.
