Clicker Adds FB Integrated Recommendation Feature

Online video portal Clicker just launched a new, Facebook-integrated recommendation service for Google TV, accompanied by a new addition to its homepage.  In addition to listing videos, the site now automatically retrieves data from logged-in Facebook users, processes it and recommends videos the system determined to be relevant to the user.

“This makes Clicker more useful, based on information you’ve already told Facebook, and should help the site make a better first impression with first-time users. Instead of just recommending you any random show, it should be able to recommend something you actually want to watch.”

This is definitely a good move by Clicker (if implemented well), as targeting content for specific individuals in a very personal format which in turn covers a lot of public Facebook data is a very effective way of sustaining the traffic flow to the site. On top of just the regular ‘staff picks’ and ‘what’s new’ sections, users can now also see which videos their Facebook friends like, which demonstrates once again how at least in theory, Clicker’s new Facebook integration can prove itself to be effective. Apple’s integration of Facebook with its iTunes music-based social network Ping did not work and was eventually axed, but that of Clicker is much more massive and profound.

In related news, we also covered here some very important updates to Google TV, which include a new option which enables customers to browse through the Netflix streaming catalog, personalized recommendations, a re-sizable  viewing window for Dual View and more.
