How are businesses taking advantage of the latest in container technology for virtualized application deployment? And where does Docker fit into this ecosystem?

DockerCon17, currently underway in Austin, Texas, will explore these and other questions at Docker Inc.’s annual conference this week. SiliconANGLE will be at DockerCon17 with exclusive interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE.

“While Docker didn’t create containers, Docker is the company that has really democratized it for the world,” said Stu Miniman, principal research contributor of the analyst group Wikibon, owned by the same parent company as SiliconANGLE.

To provide better support for enterprise IT environments, Docker announced Docker Enterprise last month, a new toolkit that aims to make containerized workloads more portable across the different platforms powering an organization’s infrastructure. This follows its announcement in December that the company was open-sourcing a core component of its container engine in the form of “containerd,” a runtime module that is available separately from Docker Engine.

“Containers are here to stay; they are an underlying foundation piece of what’s happening in the infrastructure and application world,” said Miniman in his DockerCon preview interview, who will be one of theCUBE hosts at DockerCon.

The container ecosystem continues to gain support from the biggest players in tech. Microsoft Corp. announced last week that it was acquiring Deis Inc., a startup that builds tools, such as Helm, Workflow and Steward, for the open-source application container management platform Kubernetes. Microsoft’s acquisition announcement followed news in February that the company was adding support for Kubernetes to its Azure Container Service.

Intel Corp. last month updated its Clear Containers software to be more compatible with other containers, such as Docker Swarm and Kubernetes orchestration.
