Facebook Breaking Holiday Records with 750M Photo Uploads

In an official tweet by Facebook, the largest social network and image sharing service on the globe shared news of breaking its own photo-uploading record. Facebook reports that the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day weekend surpassed Facebook’s average of 100 million uploads per day and encompassed no less than 750 million photo uploads, announcing the milestone with this tweet:

“People celebrated New Year’s on Facebook by uploading a record 750M photos over the weekend. Check out yours: http://ow.ly/3ydHB

Facebook’s 750 million photo uploads record is added to the list of holiday milestone we’ve seen lately. Facebook’s record however, stands out even in this list – the social networking giant managed to surpass all the specializing sites including Photobucket, which is not very good news for these websites at all.

Facebook has been working hard around the topic of photos, and we covered here how it recently launched a new facial recognition feature to Tag Suggestions which enables to tag friends in photos. The new currently U.S-only feature is aimed to automatically suggest whom should user tag to their pics. Giving the funding Facebook raised which boosted its total value to $50 billion, the expectations around Facebook search and the social-networking giant’s partnership with Bing are climbing, and photos are becoming more relevant than ever.
