EMC Reveals VNXe Turnkey Storage and Network Infrastructure Solution
Small and medium sized businesses looking for storage and network solutions can now use EMC to breathe easier when it comes to their IT concerns. With the release of the VNX family for unified storage solutions, EMC has created an affordable and powerful solution for just the sort of things that small and medium companies want out of their information infrastructure.
At a cost starting around $10k (USD) the solution boasts huge unification of IT resources and boosts in efficiency vs. traditional solutions, as well as the benefit of having everything in one place.
The new VNX series provides 3-times simpler management, 3-times the efficiency, and 3-times the performance than current EMC midrange storage systems, enabling customers to:
- Run Microsoft SQL Server 3-times faster.
- Run Oracle OLTP 3-times faster.
- Boot 500 virtual desktops in 8-minutes.
- Reduce Microsoft SQL Server administration and tuning chores by hours per week.
- Improve capacity efficiency up to 3-times with the EMC FAST Suite, compression and file deduplication.
It should be no surprise that EMC is delivering such a package as industry analysts have seen this sort of product as the mainstay of any business venture into the Information Age. Bundling of IT infrastructure out-of-the-box reduces overhead and allows new businesses and growing businesses to quickly arrive on the scene with better resources.
“IT organizations are under extreme pressure to reduce costs and deliver, more efficient IT services. In addition, the expectation for simpler IT is at an all-time high and is dissolving traditional silos at larger companies. Meanwhile, small and mid-sized organizations are facing similar pressures but with fewer in-house skills,” says Dave Vellante, Chief Research Advocate, Wikibon.org. “Our financial models show that by bringing together CLARiiON and Celerra, EMC’s VNX series will allow practitioners to reduce costs and accelerate IT delivery; while the VNXe series will enable small and mid-sized organizations to essentially deliver IT as a service without specialized storage skill sets.”
With the release of their VNXe solution, EMC has also come forward with a partner reseller campaign in order to more quickly introduce themselves to the industry. With what they’ve dubbed the EMC Velocity Solution Provider Program partners can receive training, solutions, and the ability to deploy products to interested parties with extreme ease. “ll partners can quickly and cost-effectively get up to speed in under three hours through free training and enjoy the associated benefits of offering leading storage technology from EMC.”
Resellers who take part in the program will enjoy huge benefits from EMC for helping get their products out startups and growing companies. The simple offer of free training and accessibility to their catalogs should be more than enough enticement to get many consulting and IT firms on board; especially in light of how effective EMC has been in the past for delivering similar products.
“EMC has strengthened its channel focus to capture more SMB business, support distribution, and grow its partner base with the new authorization process and Affiliate tier. When you combine EMC’s new channel-optimized VNXe that is priced to deliver attractive margins with the simple processes for partners to be quickly authorized to sell and service the VNXe, our partners are going to be well rewarded,” said Gregg Ambulos, Vice President, Global Channel Operations and Americas Channel Sales.
All of this is part of EMC’s “Breaking Records” announcement and it sounds like that’s precisely what they’re doing. Much of their angle has been to take control of data and storage to revolutionize the way the industry sees data centers; and how businesses internally approach both users and storage as their long-term strategy.
The unveiling of VNXe already has several test cases and customers who have weighed in and the systems have seen installation in such diverse locations such as the City of Safford Arizona, Wake County Board of Education California, InfoPlex, and PITT OHIO.
