Dell EMC seeks to speed up cloud-native business value

As cloud-native computing becomes even more important for organizations of all types, Dell EMC is emphasizing its efforts in the hybrid cloud arena, according to Ted Bardasz (pictured, right), senior director of product management, big data solutions, at Dell EMC, Dell Technologies Inc.’s infrastructure group.

“We think about developer-ready infrastructure … to be able to wheel in an environment with someone on-prem to take advantage of a cloud-native platform, we grabbed additional services around that to really give a full, comprehensive experience monitoring and reporting, disaster recovery, availability zones, an object store,” Bardasz said.

To do so, Dell EMC partners with Pivotal Software Inc. to integrate the Pivotal Cloud Foundry — a cloud-native platform for deploying and operating modern applications — into its products, including VxRail, VxRack and NSX.

“We bring all of that together so that for an on-prem customer that’s looking at building cloud-native apps we can get that deployed in just a couple of days and give them a very rich experience,” Bardasz said.

Bardasz, along with Craig Steel (pictured, left), general manager of strategic alliances at Pivotal, spoke with John Walls (@JohnWalls21), and Paul Gillin (@pgillin), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile live-streaming studio, during Dell EMC World in Las Vegas, Nevada. (* Disclosure below.)

Helping businesses compete in a Digital Age

“Our relationship is two-fold,” Steel said. “We co-develop solutions to bring to market together with Dell Technologies and their family of companies. And Pivotal also supports internal initiatives that are cloud-native applications being built within Dell and EMC IT.”

Such solutions as PCF and other hybrid cloud architectures have propelled Dell EMC products to be simpler and more accessible, according to Steel. “There are a lot of technologies that you can go out and learn on a public cloud provider that may take several steps to deliver what Pivotal Cloud Foundry does as a packaged solution,” he said

The idea is to “give them a very rich experience” that others who aren’t focused on “end-to-end workflow of cloud-native app development” can’t give them, Bardasz added. Dell EMC is “really focused on how fast we can help companies deliver business value through cloud-native application development,” Bardasz said.

The road ahead is not entirely an easy one, according to both Bardasz and Steel. “But it’s a challenge we’re investing in and willing to take on.”
