Software-defined storage company Nexenta Systems Inc. is pitching a new cloud-native storage solution for customers using Amazon Web Services Inc.’s public cloud.
NexentaCloud for Amazon Web Services is based on the company’s original NexentaStor product, which is an open-source SDS platform for on-premises deployments.
The new service is designed to help integrate applications running on AWS with on-premises server platforms. The platform comes with the full range of capabilities necessary to do this, including snapshots, cloning, thin provisioning and data compression.
“By further extending our enterprise OpenSDS technology to the cloud, NexentaCloud for AWS lets organizations, especially those who have historically utilized on-premises NAS and SAN server platforms, continue their journey to a hybrid cloud environment,” Tarkan Maner, Nexenta’s chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
NexentaCloud for AWS provides useful features including data replication for all workloads, and analytics services to help keep track of data stored across both on-premises and cloud deployments. The service has been configured for AWS instances so minimal setup is required, and the company claims it can reduce total cost of ownership as it allows customers to ditch over storage systems they may have been using.
Digital media content company Ingrooves Music Group is already making use of NexentaCloud for AWS in order to accommodate its growing storage requirements and ensure the safety of its data.
Nicolas Ratineau, director of systems engineering at Ingrooves, said the main benefit was being able to optimize its storage costs by combining NexentaCloud with NexentaStor. “This gives Ingrooves a reliable data repository in the cloud model and more importantly a more cost-effective, scalable option to handle growth, a few terabytes at a time,” Raineau said.
NexentaCloud for AWS is available now via the AWS Marketplace.
