The new Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. Developer Community program officially launched in late November last year. It is already attracting interest among those in the coding community who are seeking ways to collaborate directly with HPE engineers, build cutting-edge apps, and solve problems.

“In the last two-and-a-half months, we’ve seen a significant uptick in people coming in and just hanging out on the portal,” said Said Syed (pictured, left), director of the hybrid cloud developer experience strategy and solutions engineering at HPE, who cited 30,000 unique page views as evidence. “It’s really focused on reaching out to the developers that are out there … who are looking to do integration with HPE infrastructure, as well as our software-defined platforms.”

Syed spoke with John Furrier (@furrier), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, and guest host Lauren Cooney (@lcooney), at the KubeCon CloudNativeCon EU event in Denmark. He was joined by Paul Holland (pictured, right), director of the Open Source Program Office at HPE, and they discussed the introduction last year of HPE OneSphere and the power of application program interfaces. Centralized control for managing resources

The introduction of the developer program is designed to complement HPE’s recent moves to bring different kinds of infrastructure together under a unified set of management solutions. OneSphere was rolled out in November and offers centralized controls for managing on- and off-premises resources.

“What we’re seeing is legacy enterprises having all of these legacy applications that they need to migrate to a new world, and at the same time they’re struggling with how to go hybrid and how to go to the edge,” Holland explained. “The reason we’re here is to highlight to developers that if you really want to bring things together, we can help you do that.”

As a multicloud management platform, OneSphere can help developers exploit the full capabilities of APIs, something that HPE sees as a vital ingredient in today’s information technology world. “It’s all through the power of the API,” Syed said. “If you can automate it, orchestrate it and manage it, then we’ve really solved your problem.”
