VMware on a Tear: Teams with Isilon, Dell for Real World Cloud Solutions

Isilon announced today the launch of the new generation of Isilon scale-out NAS hardware and software platforms, with innovative features such as enabling customers to choose from a range of drive configurations, including solid state drives (SSD) with either serial attached SCSI (SAS) or serial ATA (SATA) drives, and combine them with a large, globally coherent cache and next-generation quad core processors to deliver optimum price-performance for accelerating big data access.

“Not only has the big data era arrived, but it is already impacting our lives in a variety of ways, from the pursuit of personalized medicine to real-time social networking,” said Sam Grocott, Vice President of Marketing, Isilon.

“The foundation of this transformational shift is scale-out storage, which delivers the simplicity, scale, and ‘pay as you grow’ architecture big data requires, while also providing advanced enterprise functionality to ensure seamless integration with a broad range of mainstream IT environments. With these new hardware and software products, Isilon is setting the standard for big data storage, enabling customers to unlock the full potential of their mission-critical information.”

But this is not the only piece of news coming from EMC as today as well, EMC’s WMware is announcing the collaboration with Dell for the release of a mobile clinical computing solution for hospitals and health care organizations that use the MEDITECH Health Care Information System. With the new product, MEDITECH users will be offered a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) designed for fast-paced environments such as those in the healthcare domain, eliminating the need for local storage and reducing the risk of a security breach.

“Secure virtual desktops are particularly advantageous in healthcare, where users are heavily-reliant on roaming sessions, fast workflows, and shared workstations. With MCC for MEDITECH we are changing the way doctors and nurses access data by providing “one touch” secure roaming for fast access to patient information at their fingertips – from any workstation or thin client,” said Barry Chaiken, MD, CMO, Imprivata.

Cloud computing is fully growing at the moment, trying as hard as possible to meet the more increasing demands of businesses of all sizes and domains. Such companies greatly benefit cloud computing as they do not have to invest anymore in servers and software building when all these money and time could be invested in the growth of the business.
