Netskope extends its cloud security tools to Google’s cloud

Cloud security company Netskope Inc. is extending its security assessment and monitoring capabilities to Google LLC’s public cloud infrastructure.

The Netskope for Google Cloud Platform offering is designed for enterprises that need to monitor assets deployed on Google’s cloud.

Netskope already has similar products for Google’s cloud rivals Amazon Web Services Inc. and Microsoft Corp. Now, Google’s cloud customers also have a way to assess infrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service configurations continuously to ensure compliance and prevent data loss.

Netskope for Google Cloud Platform provides visibility by making an inventory of resources that can identify anomalies and risk, such as infrastructure misconfigurations, the company said. Its cloud security tools enable enterprises to peer inside the data their workers are sending to and from cloud applications, even when those users aren’t connected to the corporate network.

Just as important is that the company says it can detect the kind of data that’s being exchanged, helping information technology organizations combat the danger of security risks created by so-called “shadow IT,” the use of unsanctioned software and services.

“Increased adoption of cloud, hybrid and multicloud strategies in the enterprise is changing the way people work today, while also giving cyber attackers new entry points into a company’s corporate environment,” said Sanjay Beri (pictured), founder and chief executive officer at Netskope. “Managing risk associated with data loss and cyber threats in the cloud should be a shared responsibility between the cloud provider and adopters of infrastructure.”

The platform’s capabilities include continuously monitoring Google Cloud environments for misconfigurations and monitoring of specific services such as Google BigQuery and the workloads performed on them. The software also helps to ensure compliance by carrying out continuous audits and providing reports.
