It seems like the cloud and big data have been mingling so well at the EMC World 2011, in the presence of over 10,000 attendees. After two days of successful demonstrations and speeches, the Vegas event closes both days with a bang, and loads of newsworthy developments.

EMC is successful in ensuring that spectators’ eyes are glued to their updates and announcements. Yesterday, they shook the data center analytics sphere with the announcement of the availability of the newest version of its EMCIonix Server Manager software that uses “cloud to ground” analysis features, combined with vCenter integration to effectively manage and troubleshoot virtualized data centers. Today, the enterprise launches information intelligence group global partner program.

The goals of this program are to construct, sell, install and support solutions created with  Information Intelligence Group (IIG) products. . Chris McLaughlin, Vice President of Channels and Alliances for IIG, a Division of EMC explains the demand that triggered this launch: “As companies move to the cloud and explore new ways to transform their business, ‘technology’ loses out to ‘solutions’ and ‘expertise.’ This is why we’re so pleased to deliver our new partner program and set of initiatives, as we’re confident this new EMC partner ecosystem will enable customers to achieve high-impact results quicker than ever before. As EMC increases its focus on delivering total solutions, working with selected, certified partners gives customers the confidence to rely on us for their business-critical processes.”

Other well-talked about developments in the EMC World 2011 include the debut of Isilon’s 15PB NAS single file storage system, EMC’s decision to partner with Google to integrate search and indexing capabilities into their storage products, another alliance formed with Box this time to bring content management to iPhone and Android and VMware to extend virtualization services to mobile handsets. Dennis Hoffman’s (senior vice president for EMC Service Providers) talk on Dell’s cloud strategy being desperate and predictable has poised some intrigues within the tech community.

While we are seeing several innovative and varied products and services at EMC World 2011, EMC CEO Joe Tucci has made it clear yesterday that Hadoop and Greenplum won’t be their last investments into open source. He then stated, “We are… very committed to open source.”  In this light,  the company’s funds are directed chiefly to sustain cloud computing, create new data centers and virtualization. EMC is now accelerating its drive to enhance flash research and development.

With the participation of 100 premier IT companies, 500 educational sessions and 100 hands-on labs nearing the pinnacle, EMC World 2011 is already considered a huge success and the victory will bring so much pressure to whoever will organize next year’s event. The comprehensive keynotes from industry leaders and hosting the world’s first Data Summit that will bring data scientists to discuss big opportunities in Big Data are some of the highlights of this year’s EMC World.
