Dell launches managed service for data backup and recovery protection

Based upon 15 years of managing different computing environments for its large enterprise customers, as well as data from IDC indicating backup and recovery as a top concern across the enterprise, Dell has introduced a standard managed service for data protection that is available with its Flex on Demand consumption model.

“There are a lot of different environments that we manage today … storage, data protection, hyper-converge, cloud, and we’re doing that with a variety of different global customers around the world,” said David Mensing (pictured), senior director of product management at Dell Technologies. “What we’ve seen is that these customers are running into a lot of common challenges, particularly around the complexity and growth in their environment.”

Mensing spoke with Lisa Martin, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the Dell Technologies World Digital Experience event. They discussed how Dell’s managed service provides both a greater level of confidence in data backup and recovery and the advantages of greater efficiency during this COVID era when teams are asked to do more with fewer resources. Customers lack confidence in full recovery systems or data in the event of loss

Dell found that 64% of customers surveyed said they lack confidence that they can fully recover systems or data from all their platforms in the event of a data loss. With its managed services offering, Dell can now monitor systems on a 24×7 basis for its customers and troubleshoot as needed.

In addition, the company can compile reports and dashboards that provide visibility and transparency. This not only increases customer confidence, it also frees up teams to devote their time to more important projects, particularly when they’re having to focus on more work than before COVID, according to Mensing. 

“That provides not only some predictability in what customers need to budget for every month, but more importantly, they’re saving a lot of money from the standpoint of not having to pay for that all upfront [cost] anymore,” Mensing explained. “They can actually spread that out over time, and that flexibility is — particularly in the economic space we are right now — really, really important.”
