Iguazio’s data science platform achieves ‘AWS Outposts Ready’ designation

Data science company Iguazio Systems Ltd. hit a new milestone today, announcing that its platform has been certified to run on Amazon Web Services Inc.’s hybrid cloud infrastructure offering, AWS Outposts.

Iguazio sells a “serverless” data platform-as-a-service product that creates real-time intelligence for applications that run at the network edge or on public clouds and in on-premises data centers. It works by consolidating data into a repository and making it available to the applications that need it, as files, messages, streams and forms. Data can be analyzed onsite without sending it back to the cloud, enabling much faster insights.

The serverless aspect of Iguazio’s platform, powered by its open-source Nuclio framework, is important because it means users don’t have to worry about the underlying infrastructure, such as servers and storage. Nuclio also helps reduce bandwidth constraints by aggregating data before sending it to the cloud.

AWS Outposts, meanwhile, extends native AWS or VMware Cloud on AWS deployments to customers’ own data centers, effectively giving them an on-premises version of the AWS cloud. It’s somewhat similar to Microsoft Corp.’s Azure Stack offering, which allows customers to run Azure cloud services within their own data centers.

With AWS Outposts, customers can run compute and storage on premise, with fully managed and configurable compute and storage racks built with AWS-designed hardware. The service lets customers run workloads on-premises with the same AWS application programming interfaces, control planes, hardware and tools they use to connect with their other AWS applications.

Iguazio said today it has achieved “AWS Outposts Ready designation,” which means customers can run its platform on AWS Outposts with the same high performance as when running it on the traditional AWS cloud platform. That’s important, because many AI applications can benefit from processing information at the network edge, where the data is created, to take advantage of the lower latency.

The AWS Outposts Ready Program was established to help Amazon’s cloud customers identify products and services that can run natively out of the box on AWS Outposts with minimal configuration. Iguazio is one of the first data science platforms to achieve the designation, it said.

“The seamless integration with AWS Outposts enables us to provide our customers with an enhanced solution that is fully integrated within businesses’ AWS Outposts environments, allowing them to choose where their applications reside based on data security and business considerations, and not performance or ease of use,” said Iguazio co-founder and Chief Executive Asaf Somekh.
