Cicso’s prediction of internet traffic explosion by 2015 has reached all corners of the tech industry. In four years time, the world is set to enter the zettabyte era, and according to Cisco, it is quite inevitable. Videos will be a driving factor in making this happen. Other factors include network-connected devices that include smartphones, notebooks, tablets, faster broadband speed, growth of internet users and appliances. Furthermore, the Asia Pacific region will be the prime generator of internet traffic.
Cisco, the premier consumer electronics and networking mogul, knows the gravity of this traffic boom expected in four years time. While they are still patching gaps within some financial glitches through organizational restructuring, Cisco wants to ensure that they will still be on the game. To prevent the business from cramming, they are already updating their system to prepare for the zettabyte era. The California-based company is bringing in network virtualization to ASR 9000. This move hopes to support users to traverse the high tides of internet traffic and help businesses smoothly transition and migrate to iPv6.
Senior Vice President of Engineering and General Manager of Service Provider Business at Cisco Pankaj Patel expects competition to be tough. He said, “This is a critical period in the broadband communications industry. To remain competitive and meet consumer and business customer needs, service providers must deliver next-generation Internet experiences.”
Deploying network virtualization is a way for organization to maximize their IT investments and network resources, and somehow cope with economic mayhem. Companies see this as a great opportunity to push for cost-efficiency and innovate as well. These benefits have lured enterprises to join the ride. Recently, Pano Logic welcomed Zonics to partner network and latter is the latest addition to the 250 companies that will resell their VDI products worldwide. Aside from storage solutions, product releases at the Dell Storage Forum 2011 also targets network virtualization.
