CLOUD

GreenLake is HPE’s future, says CIO strategic adviser

GreenLake isn’t just a part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co.; it’s the key to its strategy going forward.

The cloud is the future of the enterprise, and hybrid cloud solutions are increasingly gaining popularity, especially with a pandemic accelerating the need for digital migrations for organizations everywhere and leaving business owners with the task of choosing the best cloud-based solutions for their enterprise.

“I think all of these pieces are converging at the same time, and what we’re starting to see from HPE is a convergence of different technologies and service offerings that are here to meet that need,” said Tim Crawford (pictured), CIO strategic adviser at AVOA.

Crawford spoke with Dave Vellante, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the HPE GreenLake Announcement event. They discussed what GreenLake means for HPE’s future, the benefits of the hybrid cloud and more. (* Disclosure below.)

Seeing the big picture

Despite its convenience, the cloud is complex and complicated, requiring a continuous journey and effort from businesses and tech companies globally. In fact, this week’s HPE Announcement event is not just a one-time thing, according to Crawford, who emphasized that future announcements are expected as HPE works to meet evolving enterprise computing needs.

“It’s going to take time to put this together because this is a really complicated space that you’re talking about,” Crawford said. “If you look at [this week’s] announcements, you can see that these are starting to put very critical pillars in place.”

An important cloud computing market trend of late, according to Crawford, is the pandemic boosting interest in cloud solutions. In the past 18 months, he has seen the greatest uptick in cloud interest to date. In addition, organizations are also realizing that even with the perks of the cloud, on-premises infrastructure still offers advantages over cloud-only infrastructure.

“That’s where this hybrid story comes to light, bringing the goodness of what you get from public cloud, as well as what you get from on-prem, and then bringing private cloud into the mix,” he said.
