Salesforce’s MuleSoft integration studio gets generative AI front end

Salesforce Inc. is folding generative artificial intelligence capabilities into Anypoint Code Builder, an integration platform from its MuleSoft subsidiary, the company announced today.

Citing its own research showing that 80% of information technology leaders say integration challenges slow digital transformation, the company said generative AI can significantly improve integration speed while enabling developers to build application program interfaces and visual representations of code and business logic needed to connect systems and applications.

Anypoint Code Builder generates Visual Studio code from natural language prompts and offers various deployment options, including a desktop integrated development environment and a cloud IDE that is accessible through any web browser. Though the service is optimized for Salesforce platforms such as customer relationship management and flow modeling, the company also offers a large library of connectors to third-party platforms.

“Gen AI makes the technology more accessible to people who don’t have the time to learn the whole drag-and-drop interface,” said Param Kahlon, general manager of automation and integration at Salesforce. “For someone who is new to technology and knows the flow they want, they can create a prompt that gets the process started and tweak it without having to know the intricacies of each component.”

Vertical market uses

Salesforce specifically noted that healthcare organizations can use the platform to streamline the integration of patient data across various electronic health record systems without violating privacy and compliance regulations. Financial services firms can facilitate secure and compliant data sharing between institutions and retailers can integrate ecommerce platforms with inventory management systems for better efficiency and inventory accuracy.

Anypoint Code Builder is an evolution of Anypoint Studio, a design and testing environment for MuleSoft applications based on the popular Eclipse IDE. “We’ve rebuilt it to be available with a modern front-end, web availability and support for extensions,” Kahlon said. “In the past, our product had different environments for design/build/deploy. We’ve provided all this seamlessly in one product.” Anypoint Studio will continue to be offered.

An example of how the generative AI-powered integration platform can be used is a natural language prompt that instructs the system to integrate a sales lead into an SAP SE order entry system. “It understands and can generate code snippets in a copilot experience that is then used to create the integration flow,” Kahlon said. “Developers can create more automations faster.”

The product has been in beta test for more than six months and “we’ve seen anywhere from 20% to 40% self-reported productivity gains,” Kahlon said. “More important is that it’s made the integration stack available to other types of developers who didn’t know the Mulesoft development language.”

Salesforce didn’t specify pricing, which is custom-quoted.
