What to expect at HPE Discover Barcelona: Join theCUBE Nov. 29-30
Artificial intelligence is set to become the catalyst for the next great revolution in work, spanning almost all industries.
Companies are trying to compete on speed, efficiency and use cases revolving around AI. Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. has thrown its hat into the ring to offer cloud computing services designed to power AI systems made for the modern world of hyperscalers.
“HPE made a lot of huge announcements at HPE Discover in June, and now it is time for them to pay out those announcements in Europe,” said Rob Strechay, managing director of theCUBE Research. “I am excited to be there live in Barcelona to analyze how they are making good on all their announcements and to hear their new announcements. I expect to hear much more about their progress with LLMs as a service; continuing to bring a GreenLake cloud operating model to the colo, on-premises and edge data centers; and what’s new in data management.”
From November 29-30, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio theCUBE will be on the ground at this year’s HPE Discover Barcelona event. Strechay and fellow analyst Rebecca Knight will talk with industry experts about how AI is enabling real-time decisions and the latest advancements in hybrid architecture and large language models. Investing in innovation
Enterprises now have the capability to privately train, optimize and implement large-scale AI using the sustainable supercomputing platform provided by HPE GreenLake for LLMS. This solution combines HPE’s cutting-edge AI software with its top-of-the-line supercomputers.
The next phase in the development of cloud computing is the implementation of a distributed model, which involves multiple providers. This model will incorporate various other approaches, such as edge computing, to create a seamless infrastructure and user experience.
“We have reached a generational market shift in AI that will be as transformational as the web, mobile and cloud,” according to Antonio Neri, president and chief executive officer at HPE, earlier this year. “HPE is making AI, once the domain of well-funded government labs and the global cloud giants, accessible to all by delivering a range of AI applications, starting with large language models, that run on HPE’s proven, sustainable supercomputers.”
Under Neri’s leadership, HPE has been making significant strides in edge computing, hybrid cloud and AI. Neri’s strategy has been pivotal in positioning HPE at the forefront of technological innovation, focusing on customer satisfaction, sustainability and offering differentiated products.
“If you recall, in 2018 I stated that the edge will be the next frontier and it was going to be a massive opportunity for all of us,” Neri told theCUBE in June. “We made a bet, and the bet paid off.”
Central to HPE’s AI strategy is the balance between organic development and strategic partnerships and acquisitions. Neri emphasized the importance of this balanced approach during his interview with theCUBE: “We cannot innovate everything, but to me, innovation is a three-legged stool. Number one is our organic innovation.”
This approach has borne fruit, as seen in the success of HPE’s GreenLake platform, which offers a unified cloud operating experience. Moreover, HPE’s acquisitions, such as Aruba, OpsRamp, and Determined AI, have significantly enhanced its capabilities, complementing its in-house innovations and solidifying its position in the market.
AI, according to Neri, is a disruptive force across industries, and HPE aims to capitalize on this through its hybrid-AI strategy, which encompasses the entire AI lifecycle.
HPE managed to shake up the European investment world this year by being one of the companies that backed AI developer Aleph Alpha GmbH, which secured over $500 million in its most recent round of funding. The injection of funds will enhance the foundational base of Aleph Alpha to expedite the progress and implementation of generative AI for intricate and vital sectors, such as healthcare, finance, law, government and security.
“Our partners are industry leaders who offer enormous potential for innovation and scaling, and we are committed to building these partnerships to leading positions in their respective industries,” said Aleph Alpha’s founder and Chief Executive Officer Jonas Andrulis.
HPE GreenLake for LLMs will provide users with access to Luminous, a pre-trained extensive language model developed by Aleph Alpha. Luminous is available in various languages, such as English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. It allows companies to utilize their own data, train and refine a personalized model, and obtain real-time insights using their unique expertise.
HPE’s growing AI ecosystem
HPE has also made strategic acquisitions to enhance its AI and analytics capabilities. Two notable examples include the acquisition of Pachyderm, a machine learning pipeline automation tool, and Determined.ai Inc., an open-source platform for training deep learning models.
HPE is focusing its GreenLake portfolio on hybrid and cloud solutions delivered as software as a service or infrastructure as a service, with a platform-powered experience and data insights, while also prioritizing the viability and impact of LLM as a service.
“With HPE GreenLake, [we’re able to] have not only edge conversations and traditional private cloud conversations, but now we’re starting to talk about analytics workflows. We’re starting to take a look at workflows across the entire environment,” Jason Newton, vice president of integrated marketing, events and messaging at HPE, told theCUBE earlier this year.
Ensuring a secure HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud journey is critical for HPE. With the ongoing shift toward hybrid cloud, the company recognizes the importance of joint efforts in securing cloud platforms. As such, it is focusing heavily on security issues, offering what it believes is a unique solution as it grows its portfolio through mergers and acquisitions. Namely, it offers a combination of advanced technologies under its Silicon Root of Trust solution, which provides a unique digital identifier.
HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers are equipped with this technology, which is embedded in the silicon of each server. This Root of Trust is responsible for verifying specific security functions and ensuring the integrity of other related functions. As a result, if the firmware of a server has been compromised or tampered with, the server will not boot up. The Root of Trust serves as an anchor for the system firmware, meaning that even if an attacker replaces the entire unified extensible firmware interface and HPE integrated lights-out code, known as iLO, the system will still not boot up.
At HPE Discover Barcelona, theCUBE will provide exclusive coverage of how HPE, a leader in the cloud computing space, will present new approaches and insights into AI, security, cloud and much more.
