“Mobile is remaking entire industries,” according to the results of the first annual “Technology Outlook” research report by Bluewolf, a cloud solutions provider. The report indicates the top five leading trends of 2011 which includes mobility, cloud computing, user engagement, big data and the consumerization of IT.
Mobile is experiencing exponential growth due to increasing adoption of HTML5 including the rapid growth of Apple and Android, with the media industry anchoring the charge. The print media has extended its reach and speeding the dissemination of information with digital. Furthermore, leading networks and movie studios have been licensing their products for online streaming. Bluewolf indicated that the use of HTML5 in media has been growing by 1,200 percent year-over-year.
The report has also shown that HTML5, Android development and iPhone/iPad use increased by 200 percent. Meanwhile, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile use dropped by 50%.
Cloud computing continues to be a major technological trend. Emerging technologies from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Apps including established solutions from Salesforce have been dominating the cloud computing space. Enterprises are now realizing the value of user experience in the success of IT infrastructure. According to Bluewolf, newly built IT systems have placed user engagement as its core value. There has been wide adoption of HTML5, .Net, and Java for back-end systems and mobile applications. In the web front end, the use of UI design has increased by more than 100 percent, while Flash, Flex and Actionscript dropped by 50 percent.
Big data technologies have continued to increase its demand. According to Bluewolf, “IT is breaking deep into the data, providing new streams of insights”. Big data involves “everything from data storage, warehousing, and integration to Business Intelligence.”
Lastly, recent technologies have been focused on consumer needs. Consumerization of IT is taking place. “IT pros expect workplaces to reflect consumer innovations, and “many-to-many” interaction is becoming the norm,” say Bluewolf.
