Stacklet raises $14.5M to enhance cloud governance-as-code platform

Cloud governance startup Stacklet Inc. today announced that it has raised $14.5 million in new funding to accelerate product development and expand sales and marketing efforts for its cloud governance-as-code platform.

Founded in 2020 by the creators and maintainers of the Cloud Native Computer Foundation’s Cloud Custodian open-source project, Stacklet offers a cloud governance as code platform that helps organizations with large cloud estates optimize cost, improve security and ensure compliance. It does so by simplifying and automating all aspects of governance through code.

The Stacklet Platform is based on Cloud Custodian but goes further in providing a smoother experience for users, the company says, with value-added tools, allowing teams to codify and automate cloud governance and align with application development cycles via a standard, easy-to-use declarative language.

The platform has come into its own as artificial intelligence has taken off, driving a surge in cloud spending. Stacklet helps organizations embrace cloud computing and AI by helping them enhance efficiency and cut costs. The company claims that organizations using its service have reduced cloud expenses by up to 50% in just 90 days while also minimizing compliance and security risks.

“As organizations strive to scale and optimize their cloud environments in uncertain times while continuing to innovate with new technologies, the need for streamlined and automated governance becomes increasingly apparent,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Travis Stanfield.

With AI booming, so too have Stacklet’s numbers, with the company seeing three-times revenue growth in its most recent fiscal year, though it didn’t reveal specifics. Notable customers included Educational Testing Services Inc., Madive, Avalara Inc., Repay Holdings Corp. and several unnamed Fortune 500 companies.

SineWave Venture LLC led the Series B round, with Strait Capital Investment Group, Uncorrelated Ventures LLC, Capital One Ventures LLC, Foundation Capital Management Inc. and Relentless Ventures LLC also participating. Including the new round, Stacklet has raised $36.5 million to date.

Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Kapil Thangavelu and Director of Marketing Umair Khan spoke with theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media Inc.’s livestreaming studio in 2022, when they discussed why compliance in code is necessary:
