VMware Tanzu Platform 10: Unifying cloud application development under a single umbrella
When it comes to the operation and development of applications across different cloud environments, a secure and consistent developer experience is needed, making room for robust operational models, such as VMware Tanzu Platform 10.
To maximize ROI, VMware Tanzu Platform 10 integrates Cloud Foundry and Kubernetes for enhanced application creation, deployment and management, according to Purnima Padmanabhan (pictured), general manager of the Tanzu Division at Broadcom Inc.
“We announced Tanzu Platform 10, it is very tightly aligned with VCF,” Padmanabhan stated. “The first part of Tanzu 10 is bringing the reinvestment and the power of Cloud Foundry back to the Tanzu Platform, and Tanzu 10 brings, in a single umbrella, the choice of application runtimes. You can build your application once and deploy it either to a Cloud Foundry-based application infrastructure or application platform, or a Kubernetes, either one, all within a single platform.”
Padmanabhan spoke with theCUBE Research’s John Furrier and Dave Vellante at VMware Explore, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how VMware Tanzu Platform 10 accelerates application development. (* Disclosure below.)
How VMware Tanzu Platform 10 fits into the generative AI picture
As gen AI continues to take center stage in the enterprise world, VMware Tanzu Platform 10 empowers organizations to develop and optimize gen AI applications. This is made a reality thanks to Kubernetes management, data pipeline integration and multicloud deployment, Padmanabhan pointed out.
“The AI capabilities, Tanzu AI, Spring AI, are all included as part of Tanzu Platform,” she explained. “Most enterprise apps are written in Java. What Spring AI does is it stubs out all the pieces that you need to connect to a model to do the evaluation, to do the embeddings, and you simply write your code, and then you can easily connect to the model of your choice … hit the API and you are in.”
VMware Tanzu Platform 10 plays an instrumental role in the materialization of an application idea fast since it builds the code, ensuring that everything runs in a systematic way. As a result, the platform gives enterprises the power to build, scale and deploy an application using a single command, according to Padmanabhan.
“With Tanzu platform 10, we have a unified single console to manage your applications, look at your CVEs, security governance, compliance,” she stated. “There are three main messages. Keep it very simple for the developer, never expose YAML files, configuration files and lower level configs. Number two, make sure that the deployment is dynamic and it automatically adjusts to the app needs. Then the third one is you want to do continuous update, repair and continuous security.”
