Nametag launches ‘Deepfake Defense’ and expands Okta partnership to combat AI impersonation

Identity verification platform startup Nametag Inc. today announced the launch of a new identity verification engine and an expanded partnership with Okta Inc. to combat artificial intelligence-powered impersonation threats.

The new identity verification engine, called Deepfake Defense, is designed to combat the escalating threat of AI-generated impersonation such as deepfakes. The engine combines Cryptographic Attestation, biometrics and AI to block sophisticated fake IDs, manipulated videos and digital forgeries to ensure that fraudulent attempts using deepfakes are detected and prevented in real time.

Under the hood, Deepfake Defense leverages technologies, including Cryptographic Attestation to protect data integrity and Adaptive Document Verification to detect digital manipulation. Cryptographic Attestation is a security feature that ensures data integrity by using hardware-backed keystore assurance and secure enclave technology to verify that identity information hasn’t been tampered with.

The engine also uses what Nametag calls “Spatial Selfie” technology to map a 3D selfie to a two-dimensional ID photo to ensure that the user’s identity is legitimate. Combined with Cryptographic Attestation and Adaptive Document Verification, the innovations provide a secure, quick verification process using just a smartphone and photo ID.

Available now, Deepfake Defense is pitched as offering organizations a new standard for identity verification that not only detects but actively prevents deepfake threats. The solution delivers a powerful defense against modern impersonation tactics, including the rise of AI-powered fraud, to allow enterprises to protect their users more effectively, Nametag claims.

Alongside the launch of Deepfake Defense, the company also announced that it was expanding its existing partnership with Okta Inc. by officially joining the Okta Elevate Partner Program. As part of the collaboration, Deepfake Defense technology is now available for Okta’s self-service and agent-assisted workflows to help enterprises secure their entire user account lifecycle.

Through the integration of Deepfake Defense with Okta, users can deploy a more robust identity verification system that blocks AI-powered impersonation attempts before they happen.

“Make no mistake: we’re facing a global deepfake pandemic that’s spreading ransomware and disinformation,” said Nametag Chief Executive Aaron Painter. “Identity fraud runs rampant and enterprises are defenseless against AI-powered fraudsters. That’s why we’re introducing Deepfake Defense, the only identity verification engine that prevents, not just detects, the use of deepfakes.”
