Spoiled Consumers! What if Apple Had Called it the iPhone 5 Anyway?
It seemed like the tech world stopped when Apple’s event began yesterday morning. People were scouring to find a live stream video coverage of the event but most had to settle for blog updates. Everyone were sitting at the edge of their seats waiting to hear the words “iPhone 5” but alas, only the iPhone 4S was announced. Still, some were hoping that after the iPhone 4S announcement, there would be “one more thing” called an iPhone 5. But the event ended, leaving people confused as to what just happened.
You could almost hear people saying, “Where in the world is the iPhone 5? We don’t want an iPhone 4S, we want the iPhone 5!” So what does the mythical iPhone 5 have that the iPhone 4S doesn’t?
The iPhone 4S has some great new features like Siri, the voice recognition/talking personal assistant, which is quite remarkable and entertaining. There’s also the new 8 megapixel camera together with the new optics that take stunning photos. The iPhone 4S also comes with a dual-core A5 chip that delivers twice the power and seven times faster graphics, and the iOS 5 is packed with over 200 features that makes owning an Apple device feel like you have the whole world in the palm of your hands. These are just some of the new features of the iPhone 4S, and looking at it, I don’t see why people are whining about it.
Most of the commentary I saw was so focused on the device not being an iPhone 5. It made me think, if Apple dubbed this product as iPhone 5, I don’t think people would criticize it that much even if Apple didn’t change the physical appearance of the product. I have to admit, there was too much hype over these past months surrounding the new iPhone, but I believe that the upgrades are just as awesome as any of their product launches. People were so fixed with the name “iPhone 5” that when Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S, people were still waiting for someone to mention the iPhone 5.
Apple never really said anything about an iPhone 5. As humans, and especially modern day consumers, we always expect too much. That’s why we often get disappointed. The thing is, do not look at the iPhone 4S wishing it had the rumored features, and just take it as it is. It’s an awesome product and people will still flock to Apple stores when the product is officially out in the market.
