Google Plus Now Available on Google Apps – Another Big Step for Social Business

Google Plus opened to Google Apps today, allowing customers to manually turn it on for their organization.

According to the Google Enterprise blog, once Google Plus users turn it on, they can go to Google+ to get started.

Customers that use Google Apps for Business or the free version of Google Apps will get immediate access if they have already signed up to automatically enable new services. According to Google, it will take a few days for the service to be immediately available to all of a customer’s users.

All the features available in Google Plus will be available in Google Apps. This includes the ability to share publicly or within your circles. There is also the option share internally across an organization, even if you haven’t added all of those people to a circle.

One of the cooler features is the Google Plus Hangouts with Extras that allows multiple people to video chat with screen sharing and collaboration with Google Docs. Neat! That’s screen sharing with the camera turned on. How awesome is that?

Google is also building a migration tool for people who want to keep their personal Google Plus account.

From Google:

With this tool, you won’t have to rebuild your circles, and people who’ve already added you to their circles will automatically be connected to your new profile. We expect this migration option to be ready in a few weeks, so if you’d like, you can go ahead and get started with your Apps account today and merge your connections once the tool is available.

It took more technical work than we expected to bring Google+ to Google Apps, and we thank you for your patience. This integration is just the beginning. We’ll continue to add features and improve the way that Google+ works with Google Apps, and we encourage you to share your ideas.

Services Angle

This is a big jump ahead not just for Google Apps but for social business in general. The social business movement is gaining steam and this news from Google only cements the fact that social features are now a fundamental aspect of an enterprise application.
