The mobile industry is not merely surviving, it’s thriving.  Mobile devices have become such an integral part of our personal and professional lives that we become dysfunctional without them. Given the interest that these gizmos are getting from all walks of life, the mobile sphere has also become another area of exploitation for internet muggers.  Enter Symantec’s Norton Mobile Security Suite, which got an interesting update this week, just a couple short months after its major release.

People aren’t really aware of the potential threats to which their mobile devices are exposing them.  Our laptops and desktops are fully equipped with security applications, but not so with our smartphones and tablets.  An odd consequence, considering that they’re actually being used more these days.

Where there are cyberpunks, there will be security companies– and they evolve alongside each other.  Knowing the growing threats that are breeding inside the virtual grounds, Symantec releases Norton Tablet Security and new updates for Norton Mobile Security, both for Android.  The offerings will include a new “Scream” feature that will help users find a lost or stolen phone.  The new releases are part of the Norton Everywhere initiative, extending Norton’s security expertise across all on-the-go devices and platforms.

“With today’s smartphones, people stand to risk losing much more than contact information when a device is lost or stolen – it’s access to their email, social networking sites, financial institutions or even exposing personal photos or videos, as many celebrities have,” said Dave Cole, vice president, mobile products, Norton.

“Given these risks, consumers are increasingly motivated to protect their mobile lives. Norton Tablet Security and Norton Mobile Security provide protection from physical and online threats from one of the most trusted brands in security.”

The new Norton Tablet security will be available through its retail partners, and are designed to protect user’s privacy and important data against loss, theft, viruses and all sorts of parallel hazards. It has web-based anti-theft, anti-malware and web protection features as well. The updated Norton Mobile Security tool, on the other hand, has SMS-based anti-theft, web-based anti-theft, anti-malware and privacy features.

Norton Tablet Security is available for $39.99 for a year of protection, and supports US English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese. Norton Mobile Security is available at $29.99 for the same protection timeframe and language availabilities.
