Physics acceleration startup BQP announced today that IBM Ventures has invested in the company, though neither side revealed how much.

IBM Ventures is the investment arm of IBM Corp. BQP plans to spend the money taking its simulation platform into operational deployment.

The company was founded in 2020 under the name BosonQ Psi. The Syracuse, New York, company sells simulation software built to resolve full physics inside the window a decision actually has. The company’s platform is known as BQPhy.

Classical physics solvers leave roughly 85% of a graphics processing unit’s floating-point capacity idle, according to BQP, because the sparse iterative methods underneath simulation are bound by memory access rather than compute.

Engineering teams have lived with the consequences. Accurate models return the right answer after the deadline has passed. Faster methods make the deadline by skipping physics, which buries risk under conservative safety margins.

Two solvers do the work in BQPhy. QuantumNOW is in production and runs on the CPU and GPU hardware customers already own. The quantum-native solver, QuantumMAX, is still in development, and BQP is treating every QuantumNOW deployment as a way to work out which problems would be worth moving to a quantum processing unit. Both share one software development kit, with hooks into MATLAB, Python, Julia and a standard application programming interface.

Contracted and committed revenue has grown eightfold since BQP closed its seed round in 2025, the company said. The customer base has tripled. Platform users are up 20 times over the same period, and the software is running in production with aerospace and defense customers.

“We founded BQP believing quantum-native algorithms are where engineering simulation ends up, and we still believe that,” said founder and Chief Executive Abhishek Chopra. “But a working QPU won’t hand you customers, integrations, or the knowledge of which physics problems are actually worth accelerating. We deploy today on GPUs our customers already own.”

In aerospace and defense, the furthest-along deployments are in space. Under a Small Business Innovation Research contract with the U.S. Space Force and SpaceWERX, BQPhy propagates a catalog of more than 3,000 space objects in under a second. BQP said that is roughly 250 times faster than the open-source Orekit solver. The contract extends earlier work with the BMC3I TAP Lab, formerly the SDA TAP Lab.

A cooperative research and development agreement with the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Aerospace Systems Directorate is also in place, and BQP has demonstrated the software on radio-frequency signal problems for the tactical edge with NavalX. With Modovolo Inc., the company built a propulsion optimization for drone mission profiles that expanded from three design variables to more than 12. Integration took about a week through the API. In energy, BQP is applying the same engine to electric vehicle battery thermal management, funded by India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Indian School of Business.

Users of BQP’s platform “don’t have to change how they work to get quantum-accelerated results,” said Emily Fontaine, global head of IBM Ventures. She also pointed to BQP’s record building software that moves enterprises toward hybrid quantum-classical computing. BQP joined the IBM Quantum Network in 2023.

Venn10 Capital also took part, alongside existing investor Monta Vista Capital. Investors have now put $8 million into the company.
