Think Big Analytics Launches AWS Consulting Practice, Training Courses
Think Big Analytics is bringing its professional services to the public cloud. The Amazon cloud, to be specific.
Think Big Analytics announced today a new consulting practice to help its clients deploy and leverage Big Data technologies on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. The company is partnering with the AWS product team to deliver large-scale Big Data analytics projects aimed in large part at the Fortune 1000, said Rick Farnell, Co-Founder and President at Think Big Analytics.
“We have a successful deployment track record and our investment in an Amazon Web Services Practice plus AWS’ innovative technology roadmap is a powerful combination that offers the services and technology to help our consultants and clients rapidly design, develop and deploy complex analytics solutions,” said Farnell.
In a call just prior to the announcement, Farnell and his fellow Co-Founder, Think Big Analytics CEO Ron Bodkin, told me they are seeing an increased interest in cloud-based Big Data deployments from clients whose on-premise Big Data projects took off faster than expected.
An enterprise might provision 100 or 500 nodes in support of an initial Big Data deployment, expecting that capacity to get them through a year, Farnell told me. But once users get a taste of the new analytic capabilities, those 100 or 500 nodes fill up in a matter of weeks or months and IT can’t scale out fast enough to keep up with demand.
Such clients can now tap Think Big Analytics’ expertise to build hybrid Big Data deployments, expanding on-premise technologies to AWS in a matter of weeks.
As part of the new AWS practice, Think Big Analytics has also added Amazon-specific content to its educations courses, collectively known as Think Big Academy. It includes advanced data modeling and data science strategies for configuring and utilizing Amazon Elastic MapReduce and Amazon DynamoDB for large scale, Big Data analytics projects.

It’s a well-known truth that there simply aren’t enough highly trained Big Data pros – on either the infrastructure or Data Science side – to go around. Think Big Analytics training and education services are an indispensible resource for DBAs, BI pros and other IT practitioners looking to transition to the world of Big Data. With AWS-specific content now part of the curriculum, Think Big Analytics is in position to play an important role in expanding the population of skilled Big Data practitioners and in jump-starting cloud-based Big Data deployments.
