Virtustream combines its managed services with Pivotal Cloud Foundry

Two Dell Technologies Inc. companies are teaming up to offer a new cloud service they claim will be able to speed up the deployment of cloud-native applications on Cloud Foundry.

Cloud Foundry is an open-source platform as a service offering through which developers can build, deploy and run applications in data centers or in public clouds.

Virtustream Inc. said Wednesday that the idea was to combine its cloud and managed services software with Pivotal Software Inc.’s version of Cloud Foundry. The companies are offering a hosted service that allows users to rapidly build and deploy cloud-native applications. The new service also provides capabilities designed to boost developers’ productivity, ensure high availability and provide greater operational control.

With the new service, Cloud Foundry developers can now offload things such as infrastructure and platform deployment and management to Virtustream in order to reduce the time, cost and complexity involved in building their apps. Virtustream also provides a build, test and deployment model for DevOps, which combines programmers and information technology operations to speed application development, to enable the deployment of cloud-native apps in just a few minutes.

Kevin Reid, president and chief technology officer at Virtustream, said these capabilities were necessary for businesses to compete in today’s markets. “Virtustream Pivotal Cloud Foundry Service enables organizations to utilize one of the most popular developer platforms on the market today to deploy into a secure, enterprise-class cloud while offloading the management of the environment to Virtustream,” Reid said.
