Common tech underlies Veeam, Pure Storage team-up for full data snapshots

As more and more partnerships between companies form around complementary technologies, customers benefit from a simplified user experience. The synergy between Veeam Software Inc. and Pure Storage Inc. extends beyond the technical solutions into market strategy and business models, according to Rajiev Rajavasireddy (pictured, right), vice president of solutions Pure Storage.

“We have a direct sales force and so does Veeam. We 100 percent go through the channel, and so does Veeam. And it turns out a lot of our channel partners are also Veeam’s, so there’s a lot of synergy there,” Rajavasireddy said.

Rajavasireddy and Andy Vandeveld (pictured, left), vice president of global alliances at Veeam Software, shared their plans for the partnership with theCUBE Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Stu Miniman (@stu), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Pure//Accelerate event in San Francisco, California. Adding full snapshot integrated with Pure Storage

Both Veeam and Pure Storage technologies were built on the latest virtualization techniques, and this has let them move faster than some of their competitors in adding value to customers, according to the duo.

“Traditional backup software had to come into virtualization after the fact, so it’s retrofitted for virtualization, whereas Veeam started with virtualization — and if you look at Pure, it’s a similar history,” Rajavasireddy said.

With the right technical foundation, the two companies are in a position to quickly respond to the demands of customers, the latest of which is full snapshot support on a Pure Storage-based solution.

“We hear a lot of customers asking for native snapshot integration with Pure Storage, so that’s what we announced today. We’re in the lab working through development right now. We provided the APIs to Pure, and our target is to get full snapshot integration out in GA sometime shortly after our version 10 hits the market,” Vandeveld said.
